Menopause Dialogue 2024

BleedEqual is hosting the second edition of the Menopause Dialogue on World Menopause Day 2024.

The discussion will focus on addressing the current oversight of menopause in broader menstrual health conversations, emphasizing the importance of incorporating menopause into workplace policies, and creating supportive and inclusive environments for menopausal individuals.

Additionally, we will highlight the urgent need for more research to explore the various dimensions of menopause in India. By promoting long-term collaboration and engagement, we aim to drive impactful changes in policy and practice, ensuring that women navigating menopause in India receive the comprehensive support they deserve.

#MenopauseisMenstrualHealth

In India, where the average age of menopause is approximately 46 years—five years earlier than the global average of 51—Indian women may experience menopause for about one-third of their lives. This early onset is associated with an increased risk of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and metabolic syndrome.

Research by the Indian Menopause Society reveals that over 50% of women suffer from severe menopausal symptoms that impact their daily activities. Additionally, a concerning 70% of women lack essential knowledge about menopause, a situation worsened by societal taboos and stigma. Addressing these issues is crucial for improving women’s health and quality of life during this significant life stage.

Women now constitute about 25% of India’s labor market, but fewer than 15% of workplaces have policies to support menopausal employees. As women juggle professional responsibilities with menopausal challenges, the lack of supportive policies and open dialogue becomes more evident.
